Woman busted selling fake disabled parking badges for 175 after forging signatures

A woman has been busted for selling fake disabled parking badges after she forged doctors signatures.

Nicole Cardona, 26, reportedly targeted gullible drivers at Miami beach and charged them up to £175 for permanently disabled parking permits.

Cardona is accused of selling applications to drivers which allowed them to gain access to placards issued by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

Cops then organised for two undercover operations to take place which saw them purchase the applications, reports NBC Miami.

In response, Cardona is said to have asked for a copy of the customer's license and asked for a £175 payment in exchange.

Police then arranged two undercover operations where they purchased disabled parking permit applications. Cardona allegedly requested a copy of the buyer’s driver’s license and a $200 payment in exchange.

According to officials, each completed document had the same handwriting and matched the medical license number.

They also included the same signatures of two different doctors who denied signing the papers.

Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said: "While profiteering from the sale of illegal handicapped parking placards may seem like a small issue to many who live beyond Miami Beach, this enterprise which allegedly involved the forging of doctors’ signatures on official documents, is a criminal act and impacts the daily lives of numerous residents living in the city."

Authorities said they'd been "inundated" with complaints about drivers wrongly using disabled parking cards.

Miami Beach Police Chief Richard Clements commented: "The fraudulent use of disabled parking permits is certainly not a victimless crime.

"The victims are those who legitimately need the parking spaces. Our department is cracking down on the violators and those who facilitate obtaining the placards."

Cardona was being held on an £18,000 bond yesterday (Thursday, September 15).
