Britney Spears has seemingly had enough of the rumor mill about her potential new music and she’s speaking out.

Britney Spears posted online yesterday (January 3) to clear up the hearsay she was in the studio recording and even working with British pop princess Charli XCX. She came down hard, slamming the claims, and said she never wants to return to the music industry, preferring to do work behind the scenes and with pseudonyms in place. This has all come just a year after she released a single with the legendary Elton John – a reworked version of his hit Tiny Dancer.

Sharing a picture of an old painting depicting a woman on Instagram, Britney Spears slammed sources who said new music was coming in a lengthy caption. She said she “enjoyed” being a ghostwriter rather than in the limelight.

“Just so we’re clear most of the news is trash !!! They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album … I will never return to the music industry !!! When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people !!!”

“For those of you who have read my book, there’s loads that you don’t know about me … I’ve written over 20 songs for other people the past two years!!! I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way !!!”

She addressed rumors, too, which suggested her memoir, The Woman in Me, had been written and published “illegally.”

“People are also saying MY BOOK WAS RELEASED WITHOUT MY APPROVAL ILLEGALLY and that’s far from the truth … have you read the news these days ??? I’m so LOVED and blessed!!!” she concluded.

A reported 10th album from the Princess of Pop

Britney Spears was said by many outlets to be working on new music – as a follow-up to 2016’s Glory with writers including Charli and Issues singer-songwriter Julia Michaels.

A source told The US Sun: “Work has been going on behind the scenes for quite a while to gather a series of killer songs to bring Britney back with a bang. She is known as one of the biggest pop stars of the 21st century so there is pressure for the music to be great.

“Charli has a great track record when it comes to writing clever pop songs.”

They further said there was hope for the album to drop this year and Charli, 31, had been in the studio working on material with the celebrity‘s guidance.

This isn’t the first time Britney has said this

Following Britney Spears’ post denying the release of new music, an excerpt from her book has surfaced. The Toxic hitmaker said her 13-year conservatorship, which she was released from in 2021, killed her love for music.

She wrote: “Music was my life and the conservatorship [and the conservatorship] was deadly for that.”

She said despite her collaboration with Elton: “Pushing forward in my music career is not my focus at the moment. It’s time for me not to be someone who other people want; it’s time to actually find myself.”
