Home Decor Tips From Millionaire Matchmaker Patti Stanger
Patti Stanger—aka Bravo’s “Millionaire Matchmaker”—is more than just a bottomless pool of dating wisdom: as it turns out, she also harbors a great passion for interior design. That passion has led her to design and curate a capsule collection of interior pieces for home décor site Joss & Main, dubbed Hollywood Love Nest, which is available through July 20. The collection is influenced by Stanger’s adoration for items that embody her love for “romantic glamor,” and of course, the collection includes a set of His & Hers pillows perfect for any stylish couple.
Stanger let The Vivant into her home, which she shares with boyfriend David Krause in Los Angeles, for a special peek at her own personal interior style, and shared her top five tips for home design with us. Click through the gallery above to go inside Stanger’s home.
Patti Stanger’s Top 5 Interior Design Tips:
1. Make the space your own—and if you live with a partner, you have to work together. “My number one tip has always been to make a space comfortable yet functional, with a pop of your personality,” Stanger shared. “I think a home needs to show off your true character, but when you merge with an alpha male like my boyfriend David, it’s critical you merge slowly. I first went to all my favorite magazines and sites and made a favorites list of pictures I could send David, then he did the same. Since men are visual it was easier and faster for him to agree to my style. My designer, Wade Hallock, showcased the romantic glamor items I picked, but also purchased rugged items that David loves, such as a croc-moc leather love seat.” 2. When reupholstering is not an option, paint. “My favorite way to upgrade a living space is to take a chair or couch and reupholster it with fun fabrics that makes your space come alive,” Stanger says. “If you can’t do that, paint is the cheapest way to go. Coloring one wall with an accent color can set the tone for the whole room.”
3. Utilize every square inch of your space. “I’m a firm believer that aesthetics are great, but if you don’t have function you have nothing,” Stanger says. “All four corners of every room should be used, because that’s when a house comes to life and you can feel the energy of the space.”
4. Couches are for sitting. “I remember our family’s living room was beautiful, but my mom never let me or my dad sit on the couch,” Stanger shared. “The room was never used, yet it was the biggest room in the house. Furniture needs to be used or it sends off a cold signal to guests.”
5. Expect revisions. “I had my jewelry armoir custom-made and I designed it, but when it came in the contractor made the trays wrong and not in velvet as I had requested,” Stanger says. “Every time it went back the bill kept racking up. It’s my favorite piece, but it must have cost me $15,000 by the time it was done.”
